UNH Direct Buried Relocation of Tunnel Utilities
Durham NH
Following an intensive preconstruction planning effort that started during the early qualifications process, the University of New Hampshire selected Charters Brothers as their construction manager for one of the most significant utility infrastructure projects on campus in recent history. The project involved the relocation of a substantial portion of the campus hydronic loop piping which was housed in a failing system of underground tunnels.
Located in the heart of the Durham campus, requiring impairment of significant vehicular and pedestrian routes, CBC, in concert with RMF Engineering, successfully executed the project despite unforeseen subgrade conditions and material delivery delays.
The team delivered a functional hydronic loop in time for the 2022-2023 heating season and re-opened the major thoroughfares for the Spring 2023 semester.
