NAWIC Visit the South Berwick Town Hall Renovation Project

Thank you to the NAWIC Granite State Chapter, NH for visiting our project and learning more about the transformation underway. Our team is proud to preserve this remarkable building’s historic character while improving its accessibility and functionality for years to come. We appreciated the opportunity to showcase our work, share the history behind the building, and exchange knowledge with fellow construction professionals.

Charters Brothers Construction hosted the NAWIC Granite State Chapter, NH, for a job site tour of the South Berwick Town Hall Renovation Project in South Berwick, ME.

Rich in history, this building has served many purposes throughout its lifespan, including as a farm and private residence in the 1800s. The home was eventually demolished to make way for St. Michael’s Parochial School, which was built in 1926 and closed in 1968. In 1976, the building became the South Berwick Town Hall.

Today, the Town Hall is undergoing structural improvements, safety upgrades, energy-efficient system enhancements, and major ADA compliance and public accessibility improvements. While construction is underway, some town offices continue to operate within the building.

Once complete, the renovated Town Hall will serve as a revitalized community space with additional meeting areas, while preserving the historical character and integrity of the building. Original wood floors, as well as the stage and auditorium, will be preserved for future use.
