Judd Gregg Marine Research Pier Jib Crane
Newcastle NH
Following an intensive preconstruction planning effort, the University of New Hampshire selected Charters Brothers as their construction manager in charge of a highly technical upgrade to their existing pier mounted jib crane at the Judd Gregg Marine Research Pier in Newcastle, NH.
The project involved the removal of an existing 3 ton jib crane, structural enhancements to the precast concrete pier and installation of a new 5 ton jib crane by way of post installed epoxy anchor rods drilled and embedded to a depth of 6’. Located adjacent to the Coast Guard Station on the very busy marine research pier, CBC in concert with Oakpoint Associates and Appledore Marine Engineering, successfully executed the project despite unforeseen existing structural challenges and turbulent weather.
Through careful planning and execution, the team delivered a working crane for the UNH Marine Research Program in one month, minimizing downtime for UNH.
