UNH Kingsbury Hall Heating Hot Water Plant Replacement
Durham NH
Charters Brothers’ services were enlisted to undertake a heating hot water plant replacement to Kingsbury Hall, home to the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of New Hampshire. The work was scheduled to be completed through winter and early spring to align with the buildings heating off-season (the buildings primary heat is delivered by way of the campus heating loop from Sept. to May) with a strict requirement to be re-commissioned and operational so as to return the building to its new summer heat plant before the campus heat loop was shutdown for summer maintenance.
The new Lochinvar Boilers with Domestic Hot Water and Protected Hot Water systems required removal and replacement of existing boiler and hot water storage tank flues which run vertically through the core of the building from the basement mechanical room to the roof, 5 stories above.
Kingsbury Hall is home to many lab spaces which are very sensitive to vibration, noise and dust such as; combustion, robotics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, etc. The flues were surgically removed and replaced from the corridor side on each floor only after clean room quality temporary partitions were installed at each location. Throughout the build extreme care was taken by our team to mitigate the effects of construction activities on the daily operations of this fully occupied building.
