UNH Philbrook Hall Refrigeration Upgrades
Durham NH
In the summer of 2018, Charters Brothers executed a fast-paced Phase 1 of a two phased renovation of the University of New Hampshire’s Philbrook Hall dining facility kitchen. The project involved the replacement of five existing walk-in coolers with four new walk-in coolers, the replacement of the refrigeration equipment, rack system, and related infrastructure, the installation of a new refrigeration leak detection system and exhaust system, and related electrical infrastructure and architectural elements as well as other needed repairs and upgrades to existing systems.
The project was scheduled to be completed in the 14 week summer break but achieved substantial completion in roughly 9 weeks. The expedited execution was the result of extensive vetting of design documents, existing conditions, and trade scopes, which informed detailed planning and early procurement. Additionally, the early completion was accomplished despite a number of unforeseen conditions which Charters Brothers field staff expertly recognized, communicated, and worked with the design team and the client to resolve. The success of these efforts allowed the client to add scope to the project including deferred maintenance and systems upgrades.
