UNH Steam and Heating Hot Water Upgrades from Health and Wellness to Holloway
Durham NH
UNH Energy selected Charters Brothers as their Construction Manager in charge of replacing a failed section of critical underground steam and heating hot water system connecting two of the campuses most important buildings, Health and Wellness and Holloway.
Located near the entrance to a busy downtown Durham, the project required rerouting of vehicular and pedestrian traffic and the installation of a temporary steam bypass under Main Street which the team determined should be installed during a night time shut down to minimize impact.
Charters Brothers coordinated carefully with UNH Energy & Utilities, Durham DPW and Durham First Responders to successfully plan and execute the work in the most efficient way possible, minimizing the impact to the University and the Town.
The team delivered a fully functional system in time for the start of the 2024 semester, demobilizing and returning Main Street to its original traffic pattern prior to student move in day.
